Update 19th September 2018:
Apple Safari 12 and Hikvision cameras
One of the best features of an IP camera is the ability to simply view it within your browser. Unfortunately in order to do this though, you need a plug-in called web components. When you try to view your cameras on PC you are prompted with a message notifying you that you need to download the plug-in, however on a Mac, there is no such notification leading users to believe that their Hikvision cameras are faulty or possible not compatible.
Now, if you head over to http://overseas.hikvision.com/en/tools_82.html you will be able to download the Mac OS Plug-in. Installation is fairly straightforward. Once you have installed the plug in, you should be able to view your cameras within safari. Make sure you have ’Webcomponents’ selected from the plug-in list though.
Everything should work from this point. If you experience any issues past this point, feel free to ask any questions below.
Got a call yesterday that they can no longer see video, apparently due to a Safari update. A quick googling reveals chatter discussing the same issue on Reddit and Ipcamtalk, but no real solution. V12 update just came out and apparently killed NPAPI and non Apple Store plug ins. After installation, you will be able to live view most of Hikvision DVR/IPC/Encoder on Safari for Mac. 1 Version: V3.0.6.23 build20180123 2 Support Mac OS 10.8 or later version.
For MAC you will want to use the SeaMonkey browser along with loading the current MAC plug-in from the Interlogix site. Update 10/1/18: The newest update for the Safari browser for MAC (v12) has broken the TruVision compatability, even with the Safari Plug-In. The Interlogix engineers are working on getting this fixed. Buy Hikvision 16-Channel 12MP Plug-and-Play NVR with 6TB HDD featuring Record from and Manage Up to 16 Cameras, Up to 12MP Recording Resolution, 6TB HDD Preinstalled, 16 Built-In PoE Ports, H.264/H.264+ & H.265/H.265+ Compression, Audio Input/Output for Two-Way Audio, Up to 180 Remote Connections, Up to 160 Mbps Incoming Bandwidth, HDMI and VGA Video Outputs. Click the 3 dots at the top right of the page and select open with internet explorer. Chrome is still working (version 44.0.2403.130m) but you may have to accept the plugin again by clicking the jigsaw icon with a red X at the right-hand side of the address bar.
When you are trying to have access to a Hikvision IP camera or DVR/NVR you’ll stumble upon the message: “Please click here to download and install the plug-in. Close the browser when installing the plugin”. This plugin needs to be installed in order to view your Hikvision CCTV system.
The issue is that even if you install the plugin the message will still show up and bother you every time you need to access your Hikvision IP camera/NVR/DVR. The plugin is installed but looks like something went wrong because the message keeps asking to install the plug-in again and again: “close the browser when installing the plug-in”.
This issue plug-in with the Hikvision DVRs, NVRs, and IP cameras is related to the compatibility mode on Internet Explorer (IE). All you have to do is to configure IE and the error will go away.

The web component plugin is used by the Hikvsion to show the live image of the cameras and to playback as well. If you don’t install it correctly, you can see the cameras (image fail) and you can’t playback either. Other functions may be disabled such as when you save the settings, they’ll not be applied.
Step 1. Go to the Tools section of the IE and click Compatibility View Settings. (If you don’t see the Tools tab on the top, click the ALT key on the keyboard and it will show up).
Step 2. On the next window the recorder’s IP address (or the ddns) and click Add. The same procedure is you have an IP camera or an NVR.
Step 3. Go again to the Tools tab and this time click Internet Options. Step 4. Open up the Security Tab and click on Trusted sites.
Step 5. Type the IP address of the device and click Add. Make sure the “Require server verification” box is unchecked.
When these two steps are completed the aforementioned issue will be solved permanently. Aqw rep bot 2019. Next time you open up Internet Explorer and try to see the cameras, you won’t see the annoying message “Please click here to download and install the plug-in”.
If for some reason you’re asked again to install the plugin, do the following:Hikvision Plugin Download
*Restart your laptop of computer
*Update the firmware on the recorder (NVR, DVR) or the IP camera. Some Hikvison units run an updated firmware that doesn’t allow the plug-in to be installed correctly.
*Uninstall any remnant Hikvision plugins you may have installed previously. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program and remove from the application list the one called “webcomponents”. That’s the name for the Hikvsion plugin. Have it uninstalled and go through the previous steps to install the plugin again.Install Plugin For HikvisionDisclosure:Some of the links in this post are Amazon affiliate links.
